Trasylol

Trasylol (generically known as Aprotinin) is a protein used in medication to reduce bleeding during complex surgery such as heart or liver surgery. It is administered by injection, and was approved for the market in August of 1998. Trasylol is manufactured by Bayer A.G.

The main effect of Trasylol is the slowing down of fibrinolysis, the process that leads to the breakdown of blood clots. It is chiefly used to decrease the need for blood transfusion during surgery. It also aims to end organ damage due to hypertension as a result of marked blood loss. In cardiac surgery with a high risk of significant blood loss, aprotinin significantly reduced bleeding, mortality, and hospital stay. Effects of a beneficial nature were also reported in high-risk orthopedic surgery. Since it was brought to market, Trasylol has been used in over one-third of open heart surgeries in the United States.

The attorneys at the Singleton Law Firm are devoted to helping you receive compensation for the injuries you may have received while taking the drug Trasylol.

The drug was temporarily withdrawn worldwide in 2007 after studies suggested that its use increased the risk of complication or death. It was entirely removed from the market in 2008, excepting very restricted use. Serious side effects connected to the drug include kidney failure, stroke, heart attack, heart failure, thrombosis, myocardial infraction, encephalopathy, or anaphylaxis.

Numerous studies have proven the dangers of using Trasylol. One found that the drug increased the risk of death by about 50 percent for some patients, 64 percent more likely than those administered comparison drugs. Another study concluded that 6.4 percent of patients taking Trasylol died within 30 days of their surgery, and 16 percent within a year. These figures were 2.5 percent higher than other patient groups administered comparison drugs.

If you or a loved one have experienced any of these side effects contact the Singleton Law Firm.  The attorneys will work diligently and help you receive reimbursement for your Trasylol injuries.  At the Singleton Law Firm, our lawyers will earn your trust.
